What: doujin music circle
Known for: Touhou Project arrangements
[ STORY ]
IOSYS is a doujin circle from Sapporo, a loose crew of
composers, vocalists and animators. In 2006 they began
arranging music from the Touhou Project shooter games,
and that is where things got loud.
"Marisa Stole the Precious Thing" and its frantic Flash
video (2006) spread across the early internet, followed
by "Cirno's Perfect Math Class". Those two songs did
more to carry denpa outside Japan than most official
releases.
They never really stopped: Touhou compilations keep
coming out at doujin events, Nanahira is a frequent
guest vocalist, and in 2024 McDonald's Japan even ran an
ad parodying "Marisa", made together with IOSYS and
ZUN's Team Shanghai Alice.
